It has rapid antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, often beginning within 1–2 hours and lasting up to two weeks. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.

Ketamine can be administered in several ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, nasal spray, and sublingual lozenges. In our work with Mental Health Management Inc., we use only the nebulized form.

The experience typically lasts 45–60 minutes. Many patients find it pleasant and describe feeling relaxed or detached from their body, with shifts in perception that can feel expansive or insightful. During treatment, you’ll rest comfortably, as movement and speech may be reduced. Afterward, we provide time to reflect and discuss your experience.
